FASHION AND THE FEMALE TAILORS OF SAVILE ROW

Tuesday 14th May
18.30 - 20.00
The Royal Academy of Arts

In association with The British Fashion Council and The Pollen Estate.

What an inspiring night this was! Our founder, Ruby Slevin, led a panel discussion on Fashion and the Female Tailors of Savile Row, which centred around the importance of female Savile Row tailoring on women’s fashion.

Featuring a collective dream group of women, all working in the industry, the discussion centred around the rise of women’s tailoring, women working in tailoring on Savile Row, the importance of slow fashion and how the traditional worlds of Savile Row women’s tailoring and contemporary fashion have closer links than you might imagine.

Alongside Ruby, this group of female powerhouses included fashion stylist and editor Catherine Hayward, the first female master tailor on Savile Row, Kathryn Sargent, Nina Penlington, head cutter at Edward Sexton, all moderated by Hannah Rogers, fashion journalist at The Times. It was so interesting to discover the unique and diverse stories of this group of trailblazing women and what led them to the world of tailoring in their careers.

Hosted at the beautiful Royal Academy of Arts, as part of London Craft Week 2024, the event was produced in association with the British Fashion Council. A huge thanks also to The Pollen Estate for their support of such an important evening for women’s tailoring.
